Officers on patrol near the intersection of Post Road and Huntington Avenue stopped Dennis Nelson, 47, shortly before 10:15 p.m. on Saturday night, when he was spotted driving 62 mph in the area and swerving between the lanes.
During the subsequent traffic stop, the officer reported that there was the smell of alcohol on his breath, while his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. He also unable to answer many of the officer’s question, he stated.
According to the police report, Nelson stated “that he was coming from a friend’s house and just wanted to go home.” He also was unable to provide his driver’s license or to state who was the registered owner of the vehicle. When he ultimately gave the officer his vehicle, it was found to be suspended and revoked. Nelson also allegedly had several open, partially consumed bottles of alcohol in the car, including one in the center console.
Police said that Nelson proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and a breathalyzer determined he had a blood alcohol content of .20 percent.
Nelson was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was also cited for having an open container in his vehicle, operating a vehicle without a license, refusal to take a chemical test and moving from a lane unsafely, all infractions.
Following arraignment, Nelson was released to a sober third-party on $100 bail. He is due back in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday to answer the charges against him.
